What We Believe
Revd. Harold Rowley, the first minister of the newly formed Wells United Church, holding to the profound truths of the 4th century Nicene and Apostles Creeds, understood that for many they may not be immediately clear in their meaning or application. What he suggested we needed was a practical creed based on the words of Jesus himself.
Harold Rowley painted a picture of where a United Church might lead to, a vision which remains foundational to our understanding of God’s mission for us as His church in Wells today.
We believe that God is a loving father
We believe that God is like Jesus
We believe that God calls us to be like Jesus
We believe that the way of Jesus is the ideal way
We believe that we ought to love and serve God
We believe that we ought to love and serve our neighbours,
We believe that our neighbours good is as important to us as our own
We believe in the glory of humility and the majesty of unselfishness
We believe in the supremacy of love and in the might of forgiveness
We believe in not grasping but in giving
We believe in the spirit of the Good Samaritan
We believe in forgiving our enemies
